KUWAIT: Director General of the Residency Affairs Department Major General Talal Maarafi said the second stage of the electronic services project will start soon with the issuance of visit visas through hotels and major companies through the Interior Ministry website without the need to refer to the residency affairs departments after the approval of the “electronic signature” and after stopping the old system when the hotel manager of the company used to sign.
Maarafi announced that there is work on a new project to reduce the inflated number of domestic helpers, which have reached 680,000, through legislations and confronting certain issues that led to this large number, including home trade, where some citizens use helpers to cook food at home for sale, or those who make helpers do something else other than their designated jobs, or those who provide residency in exchange of money. He said the project has solutions, and will be submitted to the Assistant Undersecretary for Nationality and Residency Affairs Maj Gen Mazen Al-Jarrah for approval.
Maarafi said approving the executive rules of the domestic help law created a system for offices who bring in domestic help, pointing to allowing domestic help from Bangladesh provided that the sponsor should not have another Bangladeshi worker registered to him.
About the project of renewing residencies online, Maarafi said the start will be with domestic workers on a trial basis, then it will expanded. He said the project includes paying fees and data entry. He said the problem is in the sticker – how can an individual be called to place the sticker on his passport, because the renewal will not be compete without the sticker.
