KUWAIT: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Kuwait launched its second awareness campaign at shopping malls around the country under the auspices of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammed Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

The campaign, titled ‘Together Against Trafficking in Persons’ (#TogetherAgainstTraffickingInPersons), aims to familiarize the public with the difficulties experienced by trafficked persons, which include deception by the recruiter, abuse and exploitation by the employer. It also aims to build the public’s ability to identify victims of trafficking, and publicize resources from the government of Kuwait that are available to victims of trafficking.

“It is important to create awareness among the community, as many people do not know the true extent of the negative impact of trafficking in persons and also the definition of the efforts of the State of Kuwait and humanitarian role and leadership position in combating this crime which occurs worldwide,” said Iman Ereiqat, IOM Kuwait Chief of Mission.

The current campaign builds on the previous awareness campaign which was conducted by IOM in September 2015 under the auspices of Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs.

This positive cooperation between the International Organization for Migration and the State of Kuwait is a reflection of the interest of important and sensitive issues of vulnerable groups of society and its commitment to social responsibility.
